Oh, that's a good point. Good one Mac, that's why your the brains here. Jack is quiet now, full attention on Joubert for her reaction.

Marketable, he mouths at her, after she's grown quiet for a bit. Something passes over face as she turns away from the boys to glare at the wall as if it were responsible for all this. "...You do realize that's not my decision to make. Even if I thought it was a good idea. Which I don't."
Yeah right.
"I only deal with the Academy through PR. I'd have to speak with Principal Massini about this. Not to mention the chief of police." She turns back around to look at both of them in turn. "Do you have any idea what kind of a long shot this is?" Agnes demands.

He can't quite believe how bold Mac can be sometimes. This woman looked like she could rip him up faster than Ti-what?......what? He could be mistaken but it sounds like she's going for it. She's not just blowing them off.
" Yes ma'am. I believe we do."

"Rehabilitated criminals are good for business, Miss Joubert," he assures her with the faintest of smiles. "Shows the people you guys are really cleaning up this city. The ratings would go through the roof."
"Don't press your luck," she snaps at Mac. "A detention cell at the nearest jail is being set up for you as we speak. Until I get some feedback from Massini and the other relevant parties, you'll stay there. If they say no, you'll be moved to a more...permanent location." Her perfectly shaped eyebrows arch up imperatively. "You'll be moved as soon as the cell's complete. If you're serious about turning over a new leaf, I suggest you don't cause any trouble until I speak with you again. Or ever," she adds. And with a last hard look at both boys, she turns on her heel and begins to walk out, the guards flanking her.
"--Uh," he says suddenly, straining to pick his head up so he can see her. "Miss Joubert? I wonder--" he sounds sheepish, suddenly, as she stops to look at him over her shoulder "--if you've seen our balls?"
Oh God bad word choice, bad expression, oh God.
"The metal ones!" he adds quickly. "They were left at the bank! They were a bitch to make, so--"
"They're being held as evidence!" she nearly shouts, and is gone without another word.
Mac holds his breath as the three leave the room, door slammed behind them, and head down the hall.

Once the door has closed a mocking tone comes at Mac from the the other bed. " Have you seen our balls? Idiot!"

Mac's too busy laughing in relief to care. "What the fuck ever, man, we've got a chance!" He can't believe it. Holy shit. "Holy shit."

Jack is not as enthusiastic. " Maybe. What is she, manager level. How much pull you think that-" He curbs himself there, just in case they can somehow be heard. " How much pull you think that woman has anyway?"

"I dunno," he responds honestly, twisting one wrist in its restraint to try and help with blood flow. "Maybe her position's not the best, but she's persuasive, and resourceful. If she thinks we're useful enough, she's gonna do whatever she can to get us there." This is Mac's estimation of Agnes Joubert. "She's a businesswoman, Jack." As if that says everything.

" If you say so..." He'll have to trust Mac on this. He has to trust Mac on most things, and hey they turn out great fifty percent of the time! Jack has long since rubbed his wrists red from testing his restraints and just lies still for now. "Y'think that'll be our hero catch phrase? "Have you seen our balls?"

That gets a laugh so strong out of him he shakes the flimsy metal frame of his bed. "Oh man, no, there are so many options, how could we possibly choose?" He grins over at Jack. Ball puns are kind of a specialty of theirs.

"Yeah, yeah." He's still grinning, anyway. He can't help it. After expecting his plan to flop it might actually go through, they might actually not be in jail and separated for the next 8-10 years and...well, shit, they might actually learn something useful.

He looked back up to the ceiling with a sigh, he wasn't nearly as confident in the situation as Mac seemed to be. Now was he sure how enthusiastic he was about training to become a hero. It was better than jail for sure, maybe. But he dreaded it just the same.

Mac's grinning right up until the guards come close enough to be detected. With the brief, gruff explanation that they're taking the boys to their holding cell now - and a reminder to not try anything funny - the guards slowly unstrap them one at a time and replace their straps with rope. Jack is first, and Mac watches with his heart suddenly pounding, his grin a thousand miles away.

Jack goes quietly, very quietly. Scared and drawing in on himself, not so much as a blip of magnetic energy coming off him.
