Mac stifles a laugh behind another large bite--his third, and it's already half gone.
"It doesn't work on other people, s'what I'm saying." He takes a couple fries and pops the most cheese-covered one into his mouth. "I can move you around if you got enough metal on you--" She doesn't, really, at the moment, but he doesn't say that "--but that's movin' the metal. Not you." He waves the rest of the fries in his hand a little before shoving them into his mouth, maybe a little smug. He's got this all pretty much worked out.

"I see," she says, and she does mostly. Curious, she prods at her meal with her head tilted to one side. "I mean, you never know with NEXT. Your bones could have turned to metal--some poor kid drowned off the coast of Peru--or something. Oh!" She looks up at the suddenly. "I guess you might not know, its the sort of stuff you hear about at the Academy, but we get a lot of the latest NEXT news here...."

"Oh, is that so?" He makes a half hearted attempt to seem interested but...he isn't. For the longest time the majority of his NEXT exposure has been just him and Mac, he's never really thought to care much about other NEXT and what they're going through.

"I guess you would, huh?" Mac manages to sound more interested, though truth be told he's not much any more than Jack; "NEXT news" only really gets onto his radar when it affects him directly, like when his father sees fit to write another shitty article.
He supposes having that sort of information might come in handy, though. If they're laying low they might as well gather some information, whatever information that may be.
His burger's gone, now, as well as half the fries, and he feels a lot better. His brain is running a little faster than it was, at least, though that's not saying much. "What about the Heroes? Do they visit a lot, or was that just a one-time thing, before?"

"Oh, they don't visit that much. Its kinda a big deal when they do," she replied. She picked at her food, more concerned with talking with these two boys she had only met that morning than getting it into her mouth. "You won't see much of them, but you'll hear a lot about them. Not everyone loves them, though, but it is the Hero Academy, after all."
She smiled a little, and stole a fry off Mac's plate for her own.
"So you won't have to worry too much about running into them, if you'd rather not. Sometimes retired Heroes come in to teach special classes, but that's not often either. You do learn a lot of safety and rescue stuff, though, and those are fun. Buildings on fire, drowning people, that sort of thing."
She grinned. "Sometimes people get a little carried away."

"We're not concerned about seeing them," He says a bit gruffly as he moves to help finish off those fries. But eyebrows pop up and after a second to swallow his mouthful he asks. "Get a lot of accidents?"

Mac's concerned about running into them without prior warning--but they're not gonna go out of their way to see them, no.
He raises his eyes to Cat after Jack's question, curious. What happens when a Hero Academy student fucks up a rescue?

"Oh, well," she waves vaguely, glancing aside. "Accidents happen all the time, but a lot of the teachers are experienced NEXT users too. They try not to put us in any actually dangeorus situations until we get some certifications or a lot of classes. Its not like its someone ever /actually/ drowning, just someone pretending or a manikin or something. You guys will have a head up on a lot of other students, just because you already know a lot of stuff about controlling your powers. Some people come in with /nothing/, and that's kinda sad sometimes."
