Yes, he is definitely uncomfortable when he enters the room but he can't turn back now. So he tries not to glance around to much, standing in front of the desk and facing Nathan squarely. He doesn't sit. "It does tend to get a lot of commentary, sir..."

Nathan blinks at him a moment, and then a spark of understanding hits his bright eyes. "Oh! Is that your real name?" How unusual! It does make a subtle difference, though.
"Well. Please, call me Nathan," he requests. "'Sir' makes me feel too...boxed in." He smiles; it's a personal joke, though the request is serious. "What can I do for you, Nicolas?"

They thought it was a ...oh nevermind! He draws himself up in preparation for his proposal. Remember not to be offensive, just be nice you can be nice right? He clears his throat. "S-...Nathan. This will be weird I'm sure...I'm not really looking for this kind of job." He gives the application that the rude secretary had shoved at him a little wave. " All I really wanted to ask was...if your club might have use for a band."

Curiosity washes over his face as he looks from Nicolas to the application handed over to him. "A band...?" He takes the application, sets it carefully on his desk, and then places an arm over it and looks back up at Nicolas. "Please have a seat," he offers again, still very pleasant, but there's a certain serious businessman-like quality to his demeanor, now. "Tell me about this band of yours."

He does sit after the second request, setting his case near his feet where he won't lose sight of it. Then he explains, explains the swing band and the bit of trouble they've been having finding a place to play at. Seems swing just isn't all that sought after, thus this door to door...

It's a good sign that his eyes seem to brighten a little at the mention of the word "swing," but Nathan stays quiet until the very end. Only once Nicolas is done talking does he open his mouth to respond.
"I suspect you would have quite a bit of difficulty around here," he agrees, his voice expressing sympathy for Nicolas's troubles. "But you may have come to the right place."
He emphasizes the "may have" part, just a little bit.

He's a little uneasy wondering what he might have to do to make that may have a definite. "You're interested then?" Even interest is good news after all the flat out refusals."

"I have been looking into expanding our musical entertainment side," he confides, leaning in closer with a small smile as if imparting some secret. "So in that sense, yes. I am most definitely...interested." An eyebrow raises, just slightly.
"But I wonder if you are...aware of the kind of establishment this is," he adds, taking care with his words. If Nicolas has just been wandering around, it's very possible he's not, completely.

"Ah." He can't help the brief flick of his eyes to some of the rooms more questionable contents. " I have some idea, but as long as my boys are only expected to stick to their kind of entertainment...I don't think it should be a problem?" They really need a job. Nick and Kidd had already had to give up their own apartments and roommate with other band members.

"That should be no problem," Nathan assures him, waving a hand loosely by the wrist. "Your contract would specify that I am employing you solely for your musical talents. I am concerned, however, with your band's..." The wrist turns slowly in a smooth, circular motion as he thinks of the words. "...level of comfort? With your surroundings. My club is meant to be a safe place, for those of particular tastes. I won't allow any disruption of their enjoyment of the time they have here." His voice is not harsh, not accusatory by any means. But it is quite serious. He protects his boys, his guests, and his reputation very carefully.

There's a small frown and he straightens, quite serious. "My boys are not brutes and they'll fully understand where they're going before we play anywhere." He can appreciate the concern, but if Nick is serious about anything in his life, it's music and those he plays it with. He'll tease and prod and talk down those players all he wants but no one else should think badly of them. "But...before you decide on taking them, you'll have to know if someone starts shit with them, they won't step down either."

Nathan senses the same sort of protective qualities he has for his club as a whole in Nicolas, and that more or less makes the decision for him.
But he continues as if it hadn't.
"My club is not a perfectly oiled machine," he has to admit. "There is alcohol. There are new guests. There are...emotions," he finishes, a tad bit dramatically. "But it is of the utmost importance to me that my employees all feel very safe here at all times, and I consider it part of my job to ensure that that safety remains intact for everyone. That would include you."
His gaze, on Nicolas, is both serious and respectful, as if to try and cut down any possible misconceptions that he had been trying to accuse the musician of anything unsavory. "If you were hired--" he's still using uncertain terms here "--I would like to work with you to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible."

He nods his understanding, then the stern expression lightens up and he allows a little bit of a smile to curve up one side of his mouth. "You'll want to hear us first?"

He smiles suddenly, broad and bright, and...actually a little excited. "Of course. That would be the deciding factor."
Nathan has...feelings about these things, and he's quite sure they'll be up to scratch. He'd just like to know how much.

"Well, we play in a little place in east bronze on Mondays..." He suggests.
