D'nel grinned. It was still a winning, charming thing, despite the way pain had made his eyes a little drawn. the strip of long hair down the middle of his head had flopped over to one side and kept slipping into his face. He shoved at it. "You should see him dodging mountain peaks, or running through a gorge. Ha ha, sometimes being all by yourself somewhere gets a little boring. We'd mess around with a lake down on the South Continent. Came in handy."
He dropped his attention to his arm, and then his ruined jacket. He left off the food to pull it closer, sighing at the ruined sleeve. He stuck a hand through the hole and waved it about a little. "Not quick enough to save the leather, huh."

It was a nice smile when it wasn't forced "That it did, maybe he can show Orsith how sometime...with a warmer lake underneath of course." He eyed up the Jacket critically. "New sleeve's not bad, that hide's replaceable. Yours is not."

"Coranth's big for a blue," D'nel says, with pride, "But he's still smaller than Orsith. Might need a lot more air to pull off a flip like that."
He pauses, and then leans forward, chin propped on his hand as he looks at T'rey. "Mine grows back. A little." He wriggles fingers at him. "You must look after your wing well."

"Well he can give him an idea of how at least, then-" He smiled " We practice."
"Hmnf, alright, it grows back, but it's still worth more than a jacket."
He's caught a little off guard by the next comment but covers it with a smirk. "T'skyn keeps the wing well in hand, not much to be looking after in that bunch."

D'nel smooths a hand down the hardened flight leather, but he's watching T'rey with a subtle lifted of his eyes. His head tilts a bit to the side, silly sandy-brown hair flopping half into his face. "A good wing leader needs a strong second. It shows."

His eyes were following D'nel's hand, thoughts still on the jacket. Then he's looking up at him again. He's of course gotten such comments before but normally from a superior or..at least not quite like that. He' not sure just how to take it and but smiles. "I do what I can, I've got a good wing."
The little blue seems to give up on his ignoring the world now, to interested to keep it up. He leans into T'rey's neck, crooning and give's D'nel and his green a cautious look before descending to the table to see what T'rey's got leftover on his plate.

The spindly green seems satisfied with a few choice tidbits, but the moment the blue starts to investigate D'nel's plate, the little fire lizard rustles her wings a little. Its almost a warning, just caution, as she considers slipping down D'nel's arm.
D'nel glances down, curious, as he leaves some of the scraps and reaches absently to work on the bread. There's mostly just some fat edges and harder skin bits. "Everyone's pretty much got the hang of things by now. It's been a good year."
A slight pause. He gives his arm a rueful look; the expression is out of place, and somehow looks softer on him than it might on someone else. "Well, it was."

He gives his firelizard a warning thought, but the little blue seems set on irritating the green now, scooting closer and closer to those leftovers that are rightfully hers. "Chin up! That won't have you out of commission for two long, could have been much worse. You still have your arm don't you? Now what an injury like that probably needs is some good warm weather...you'll have some time to catch up on your reading." If ya know what he means...

The little green was slowly creeping down D'nel's arm, tail thrashing back and forth. D'nel watched her carefully for a moment, then gently reached out and caught at her by the shoulders. Not actually restraining her, but distracting her by scritching the base of her neck. "I got very lucky, due to Coranth." He smiled fondly, both at Coranth (absent and chasing wherry) and the little green that was grumpily submitting to scratches, still hissing occasionally at the creeping blue. "At least this isn't as bad as when I nearly broke my leg."

"Almost? Almost should like it should be better not worse." His eyes moved down again to his firelizard, the creature was being down right insolent. If it wasn't so amusing he'd have Orsith take him to task.
The little blue took advantage of the greens moment of distraction now to snap up a piece of fatty meat off the edge of D'nel's plate.

The little green caught to movement out of the corner of her eye and launched forward, chattering a high pitched scolding sound as she suddenly chased after him.
D'nel sighed, smiling fondly at the little green's defensive attitude of what she considered 'hers' with his cheek in one hand, the good one. "Well it all depends on the context, really. But its really not so bad. I'll be back and flying in no time, and meanwhile I'll just help around. Might as well, right? Although I have a feeling Orsith will be flying again before I am!" He chuckled at the thought, when it should have been traumatizing; either he honestly found the idea amusing or was trying to put T'rey at ease. "How is he doing, by the way?"

The little blue squawks abd scrabbles back up to T'rey's shoulder as fast as he can, a defiant screech back at the green is cut off by Orsith, mentally reprimanding both of them for their behavior. Blue tucks his wings tight ti himself then and quiets sullenly.
T'rey thought he'd get a story on the leg things, but it can wait. "He's doing well, just needs an O.K. from the healer but I think he'll be ready to go between now. Dragon hide heals faster than our own." His gaze falls on D'nel's arm, thoughtful. "You won't be much help to anyone like that, you ought to go to Landing and make good use of your time."

The green flattens, equally sullen as she crawls back to D'nel for comfort. He shifts, offering her his better arm as he sat up more carefully in his chair. "I don't think I could fly between for a little while yet, anyway. Maybe I will." He glances aside at T'rey, pleasantly surprised. "A good memory to remember that."

He pushes his plate away so he can cross his arms on the table top, his smile pulling up on one side. "The conversation wasn't that long ago. But I'm sure it won't be long before they can bundle you up enough for just one trip between. The weather'll do you good down there too, and I have a feeling your wingleader is used to you disappearing for some time between falls anyway?"

D'nel laughed, but even the firelight couldn't hide how he colored a little and glanced away. He dragged his good hand through his mop of hair, pulling it back so it fell more to one side than the other in a soft layer. "Ha, well, sort of. I usually remember to tell someone where I'm going."
