The first few days, it had been a little charming.
D'nel was accustomed to Healers. He helped them a lot, going out far distances and bringing back some numbweed or other useful herbs after his expeditions recording weather patterns and heat levels and other things most people didn't see much immediate use for at the Weyrs. Giving a hand when the Weyrlings had the firestone covered and Coranth needed rest after a long fight for half a fall.
He did not, as often, earn their concern, but after a few days of being reminded to take it easy and let he wounds heal he was stir-crazy despite the new caverns to explore. However, when you and a Dragon could disappear to anywhere you could clearly remember, enforced bed rest was a bit easier to dodge. They had scouted out a little bit of the ridge a while ago, when no one would notice, and after breakfast when everyone fell to shores, he and Coranth slipped out before they couldbe caught and winged over to the edge of the feeding herd, as if after Coranth's morning meal.
Then between.
They ended up on a beach not too far from the Weyr, Coranth plunging into the water by the rocky coastline while D'nel walked the edge, studying the tidal marks and wondering if they'd reflect the strength of recent storms. His little green played lookout, darting above head to makes sure they got no nasty surprises.

T'lyle, they've gone.
Who's that, dearheart?
Coranth and his rider
Where?
There's a thoughtful pause before his dragon answer. Not far.
Well, I'm a little busy so, we'll give them a bit to stretch their legs before we haul them back my dear.
As you wish.
T'lyle was in a meeting with his wing, it would be unwise to leave and D'nel would be fine for the short time. But about a half hour after the blue and his rider departed, Cryth appears in the air above the water. He took his time gliding in, disappointed that his rider was in no mood for a water landing. But the moment his rider was off /and/ released the riding straps, Cryth was in the water.

The little green spotted them first, but Coranth knew even before that. He bobbed to the surface as they appeared on a distant horizon, studying them as the green swooped down to project feelings of alarm and then dissapointment.
Cryth and his rider are coming.
D'nel looked up from half-way up a spiny rock outcrop jutting out into the water, good arm swung up and poor tucked in as he leaned back to look out across the water. He could just see the shine.
Freedom's short lived for us, I'm afraid. Catch a lot of fish?
I would like more....
D'nel sighed and laughed, swinging up the rest of the way with a quick scramble.
Then you should eat fast before they get here, lovely.
D'nel sat there waiting for them as Cryth and T'lyle came in, long legs swung over the side and swinging a little above the break line beneath him. He watched them unload and Cryth dive into the water, grinning suddenly. He'd stripped off his leathers for riding between, just in a wide-neckeed loose shirt and laced breeches. His shoes were neatly piled by his leathers above the water line on the rocky shore.
"I suppose we can't be in too much trouble," he called out as Coranth left room, politely, for Cryth to dive in, the two not too different in size.

Cryth slipped into the water near Coranth, head under the water to blue bubbles at the blue. Invite me next time, I listened. I wanted to go. His soft voice sounded a bit disapointed. T'lyle was busy, but now he is not. He ended on a pleased note.
T'lyle spotted D'nel's things on the beach and ditched his jacket, straps, and shoes there before heading to D'nel. "Well you aren't doing anything to troublesome, and no one else has noticed you're gone yet. Lucky me Cryth keeps an ear on the pair of you." He makes to sound irritated but there's an amused twist to his mouth to betray his actual mood.

D'nel's head tips to the side. The sea air drags at his long strip of hair, blowing it out into light tangles. It flops over, the rest a little shaggy now. Enough to see it was light and ruffly.
Then he grins a little. "Well I guess we did a pretty good job them."
D'nel did not want to be in trouble with the bossy ladies Coranth replied, diving under and blew bubbles back at him with a pleased swing of his tail. But next time maybe we can all hide from the bossy ladies.

He fixes his face into a scowl. "You're supposed to be doing a good job of staying put and healing." He shades his eyes looking over the water. " Not even a dolphin around to keep an eye on your sorry behind."
The brown rolls in the water and surfaces his head. It sounds like a good game, I like a game but I don't think they will want to look for me or T'lyle. We have no hurt.

"Well." D'nel leaned out, almost dangerously, over the edge of the rock, peering out to sea while squinting at it. "I have Coranth. That's all I usually need."
The little green huffed, drawing herself up on D'nel's shoulder with waves of low key indignance, and he laughed, a soft sound, as he scritched her chin. "Okay, Coranth and this little beaut."
Coranth flipped his wings to pass under Cryth, tagging him lightly with a touch to the leg in invitation to game. It is a very good game. D'nel is so clever, he is very good at it.

He schools his face away from looking concerned when D'nel leans over. "Yes, I'm sure Coranth and your little lizard are plenty enough. But you weren't supposed to leave." His hands set on his hips giving D'nel a disappointed look.
His dragon on the other hand is quite pleased that they did leave, it means he get's to go swimming and have fun. But not to clever, I found him. Cryth is paddling, turning on the surface to watch Coranth.

We were not hiding from you. Coranth surfaces a dragon-length away, flipping on to his back to float. His wigs shift under the surface, the bob of their bodies riding the waves. We were hiding from the bossy ladies.
D'nel glanced down to the hands on T'lyle's hips, so like T'rey, and laughed, hand dragging his hair back from his face. "You look like you're brother. I don't think being so serious suits you."

That...that broke the facade. He looked down at D'nel, puzzled. "What..what's funny? I'm nothing like him." pout.
Cryth rolls experimentally in the water, mimicking Coranth. But you were being sneaky you are supposed to say before you go? Your rider is hurt.

D'nel grins, the expression lurking more on one side of his mouth than the other. "You both try to look serious the same way when you're trying to be concerned. But you can't mind too much. Its an excuse to do something other then drills, isn't it?"
Very brave, my rider. Even burning he knew to go to water Coranth dimly recalls the event, but its still distressing, and with a sweep of tail sends him along the line of a wave breaking. He bobs on his back. It is not so big a hurt anymore he says.

He deflates, sinking to sit on the rocks. " Who says I don't want to do drills, We happen to have no drills until the afternoon and I'll gladly attend them." He doesn't feel like discussing similarities to his brother any further. "Thread burned?" Cryth rolls upright again sparing a moment of concern in whirling eyes.

"Oh. I'm glad I'm not interrupting training." D'nel lets it drop quickly, wondering; hmm, youngest brother of three.... maybe that was explanation enough, really. He pulls up his knees, heels tucked against the rock, and leans on them. "Oh. ....Yes, that's what happned to my arm. Thread and some fire." The smile turns wry as he gently pats the relevant limb.
Coranth flipped over, snorting out sea water.

Thread burrows, thread eats, thread does not burn. Someone must have been stupid "What idiot scorched you?"
Cryth, startled, lifts his head away from the spray then flips a wing open, pushing water at Coranth.

Coranth replies in kind, neck arched playfully as he flips a wing-full of water back at him.
D'nel, terribly calmed by the ease of Coranth nearby, watches the little green take off and investigate all the water being shoved around out in the ocean surf. "A fledged green rider." A slight pause; its not like, like T'rey, T'lyle knew them. ".....I think they've had a bit of something for a while, I er. Well, I made them upset a little while ago and I don't think they've gotten over it. It wasn't truly on purpose."
