It's easy to forget the world around you when you have a friend at your side and good food in front of you, and the pleasant rumble of the happy half of his soul that happens to fly in the back of your thoughts. The night is cool, but far from cold, and even if a cold breeze makes it off the sea the carefully tended bonfires and the press of people dissipates it before it gets too far. It never reaches them.
Walking in T'rey's wake is interesting, because usually D'nel slides through crowds. He turns sideways and gently touches shoulders, moving on his own with smiles and apologies and occasionally meeting someone new. Its not usual that he spends time with one person, let alone a large amount of it. His relationships with people are passing, like boats crossing close together in the night, with a brief touch of their wakes before D'nel is called back to Igen, or to his flight, or to the clouds, or to the northern teeth of the mountains.
He's too drifty for people sometimes, other then fellow hot blooded riders. He's been pursued before, but there's something different about how T'rey does it that's confusing and intriguing and pleasant. T'lyle is more of the type thathe ends up rolling into bed with.
But it's T'rey he walks with, and sits with, and laughs with, and tries to get to smile.

It's been unreasonably pleasant. Agreeable weather and agreeable company, his brother hasn't even shown back up yet. And this food is just excellent. He chuckles after biting into a large ripe red fruit. "I suppose we might not get to try that new found fruit, but anything grown down here is vast improvement on north's. It's a shame I don't get here more often. I imagine you've been enjoying your stay?"

"No mountains to create a drying effect," D'nel said, sketching a rough line of peaks in the air with his knife. "The warm water creates tropical storms that bring a lot of rainfall, and the yearly temperature fluctuations encourage rapid plant growth...."

"Oh.." He nodded. Not that he didn't understand that...he understood some of it. It was the kind of thing riders where learning more about these days, but as a Second he didn't have the free time of lesser needed riders to pursue such things. And D'nel obviously knew more about it than most. Mostly, he just wasn't expecting that kind of answer.
Does it matter why? It is nice here.
He has a little smile for his dragon.
It does matter to some, for you it's not so important. Did you enjoy your sleep?
I did, the sands are warm. But Cryth is to small to make a good windbreak.

In the wallowing sands, Coranth might have been 'merely' a blue, but he was large and lazy, and unmovable when sleepy. He laid in the sands not far from Cryth and Orsith as they wallowed. He rolled on to his opposite side under the broad expanse of sky, opening one eye to peer at the fellow Igen dragon not too far away.
D'nel didn't seem to notice, or mind, that T'rey looked about as interested or understanding as just about anyone else when he started talking like that. Maybe he'd gotten used to it. Maybe some people found it part of D'nel's charm, or just a little exasperating. "Mmn. But it makes for great headwinds in the winter." It seemed once on the subject, it would take effort to get him off it. "Really, the most important thing about down here is the warm seas. However, some plants just can't take the sheer amount of rainfall annually--"
It was about then that they gained a guest at their table, a young holder woman with strawberry hair tied back tightly and an easy smile. She wore the mark of the weaver's guild and the colors of the local holders, and her skin was bronzed with expansive amounts of sun. She was a tiny woman, petite without seeming fragile, and smiled at the two dragon riders expansively.
"We don't see many Igen riders down here this time of year! Do you mind if I sit here?"
D'nel was immediately the soul of giving hospitality, offering her a bright smile. "Of course not, please.... what's your name?"
"Adrianne," she offered, with a wink to D'nel and a smile tossed at T'rey.

Orsith craned his neck to look at the blue, then rose to stretch his great self and shake away some sand. Cryth seemed content to stay put even with sand raining down on him, merely closing his third lid against the shower.
For all that he didn't understand some of it, T'rey didn't mind listening. It was good enough for now just that D'nel wanted to talk with him so with a light smile, he listened. That is until they were interrupted. T'rey couldn't exactly object to company and he wouldn't. The place was public and for a woman especially, he wouldn't want to be rude. So he gave her a smile when D'nel eagerly accepted her. But he's quite put off when D'nel also sees fit to start conversation with her. He nodded shortly and gave his name in return. "T'rey, Orsith's rider." If she could tell they were Igen riders at a glance then she could certainly read his rank off his knots and he need not offer up the information.

Coranth sent a querying thought lazily in Orsith's direction. It wasn't even proper words, just the impression of a question mark in his sleepy contented state of having eaten a large belly full's worth of fish out of the nearby coastal waters.
"D'nel, Coranth's rider," D'nel offered as well, along with his hand. He and the young woman shook, both of them bearing strong calloused hands.
"What brings you two so far from your home Weyr?" she asks, glancing at D'nel. D'nel laughs.
"Ah, T'rey's kind enough to keep my company. I was injured up North and exiled down here to recover."
The girl gave him a symapthetic look. "Poor thing! Fighting thread, was it? All of you riders are just so brave..."
"Oh, no, not exactly." He waved off the question, smiling brightly, as he glanced aside at T'rey. "T'rey helped me when it happened. Its not such a big deal."

"I really wouldn't call this an exile." He said, taking a quick drink and setting his cup aside. and he smiled. "But I thought he could use the company. It really could have been a big deal, but Coranth is very clever, and quick." His eyes moved from unwanted company to D'nel. "He saved your arm."
Orsith considered Coranth's question, sending an image of an overlooking place nearer to the activities.
Music won't be long. I like to watch while I listen. Sometimes T'rey will dance. I think tonight he will dance.

"Coranth is indeed very clever," D'nel replied, grinning in his pride. He flushed with it, carving off another hunk of the meat from the food stall and picking up the piece on the tip of his knife. The movement was smooth, as elegant as eating could be, as he put it in his mouth and considered. "He's a smart boy when he's not being so lazy. But--Arianne, isn't it?--I'm surprised you have time for two bachelors like us."
"Of course I do," she said, smiling as she leaned in. "The dancing's due to start soon, you know."
Coranth, pleased by praise, found the energy to consider Orsith's offer.
I do like the music. It is too far here to listen well. It was shaded with lazy agreement, even if he was reluctant to leave his warm hallow. Are the winds cold there?

It would be mighty presumptuous of him to tell her D'nel's dances were already taken, so he can only hope she won't be to intrusive and move on to some other males soon enough. He'll allow a casual smile. "I think we could each do you dance if you wish. But I'm afraid he owes me one after." A dragonrider should be courteous but he does not intend on losing D'nel to her all night.
Orsith thinks about about it a moment before answering. No. Compared to out Weyr everything is warm here. And your rider will also dance. It will be fun to see.
His head craned around to question Cryth. All T'lyle does is dance. I have seen it. I would rather stay here. and the brown writhes setting himself deeper in the wallow to make his point.

I like music Coranth reiterated, working up the momentum to move. He rolled in the sand, shaking off great sheets of it as he gave up his prime real estate and clamboured to his feet. His fore paws and feet dug in, luxuriating in the warmth, before he stretched his wings with a lazy sweep.
D'nel laughed, the sound bright and warm as he leaned forward and curled his fingers against his cheek. "That's certainly true, the least I can do is owe a dance.... I owe much more besides, you know."
"I think I could live with a turn with two handsome dragon riders," Arianne said, flushed and pleased with the idea.

T'rey smiles an lifts his glass. " Well I think it won't be long now before these harpers pick up." His attention shifts partially back to finishing his food before the dancing begins.
Orsith stretches his wings once more before launching himself into the air, catching the sea breeze to glide into the spot he'd had in mind.

A few heavy test flaps sends sand around, and Coranth launches himself up after Orsith. His haunches drag a little behind him in the air, with his stomach a little round for sleek, continued flight without a good stoop and more speed involved. He's lazy about it, and he's lazy as he slips across the cool night air to keep up with the Bronze without any rush.
Arianne spares T'rey a side-glance, but the look goes through coyly lowered lashes when she looks back to D'nel. "That's certainly true. I claim the first dance, though," she added, offering D'nel her hand as the Harper beats suddenly moved from lazy, easy sounds good for eating to a more infectious beat.
D'nel laughed, companionably smacked a hand onto T'rey's shoulder, and got up to join in the dance.

"Oh course, T'rey spared a smile as they moved off. " Ladies first. The smile didn't stick as he scanned the the dance square, wondering if he should find a partner himself to warm up with. But his eyes catch on his brother entering the square and he's distracted a moment to long, frowning for the smug expression the younger man throws his way.
Orsith settles on his hill, sure to leave some landing room for the blue. But he's already looking towards the festivities, sending reassurance to his unhappy rider.

D'nel doesn't seem to notice either T'rey or T'lyle, his steps light and his fingers gently lifting up the young lady's hand. She mentions something; he laughs. There's a circle already forming of partners and the two of the slip into it easily. D'nel's not a bad dancer, not by a long shot, but he's outshone a bit by his partner. She clearly dances more often, and with more skill, and instead of being upset about it D'nel seems to say something that makes her blush.
Coranth settles heavily next to the Bronze, unconcerned with the unusual sight they make. Even a large Blue like himself looks small next to Orsith, and Coranth rolls over on to his side trying to find the past way to lay his chin on the ground and still keep his rider in sight. His thoughts roll contentedly as a pleasant rainbow through his eyes, his rider's easy thoughts making him interested if a bit sleepy.
